31St December 2009 arrived and Zune 30's all over the world has suddenly stopped working. There are numerous guides to fix your zune or reset your zune but none of them working. When my zune went down I went crazy and searched all over the internet for the ultimate solution. DUH, just look at yahoo answers, people are crazy with zune problems. Not a single solution seem to worked for zune at the moment.

So i finally decided to put my brain to work and finally SOLVED the problem with Zune. Yes, atleast its a workable solution till microsoft does something about it. I dont expect them to release any patch till 2nd or 3rd Jan. Its new year 2009 and am sure their software engineers are too busy drinking and partying. So the only solution is to resolve this problem ourselves.

So whats the solution? how to reset zune?

To do this,
1) use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where the zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug. Start by removing the bottom dock port spacer with your razor or flathead. Make sure to insert on one of the long ends and not in the middle of the dock. This should pop off fairly easy.

2) Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable connection half way off, and do this to the other plug on the right side. Wait 3 seconds, then push down the right connector and then the left battery connecter. Your zune should start up immediately. Press the backing of the zune down (make sure headphone jack is aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place.

3) Now the catch, Connect your Zune to your PC and then reset its clock to like 27th December 2009. This whole is popping up becuase of 31st Decemeber 2008. Seems more like a Y2K9 bug in Zune. Once you reset the date to anything older than today's date, your zune will start to work fine. Microsoft hopefully will release the patch till that time your zune will work if you follow this guide.

It's an easy process but if you're unsure don't attempt it if you think you'll screw it or something. :)"

By the way I just got a $250 Grocery Card for FREE.You just need to enter your ZIP Code. I thought It was just some prank but hell no, I got the card
in about 12 hrs time. Got the meail just printed out and went to giant , it worked and its always good to get one for free.

I did as described, and I was able to access my Zune again.  However, connecting it to the PC caused it to lock again.  On the Zune itself, I only see a place to set the time, not the date.  Do you mean set the date on your PC's system clock?  Somewhere in the Zune software has a place to set the date on the Zune itself?  Please explain.divdivThanks!

I have a couple of Zunes laying around that I don't use. I tried this fix on one and the battery connector is EXTREMELY fragile. If I had a Zune that I used, I would wait for the fix. Mine went in the garbage.

I was listening to my 30g late last night, turned it off and went to bed. Woke up at 2:00 am, couldn't sleep, turned it on and it locked up on boot screen. Battery died over night, I charged it, still locked up. Microsoft does have a posting on their home page "Zune.net" support page saying they are aware of and are working on problem. It looks like the ultimate in product engineered obsolescence, Aye. Not Canadian, just like the sound of it!!

Most 30GB Zunes don't have any warrenty anymore anyway. So opening it up won't matter, unless you break something. Even if you do break something there are tons of relatively cheap replacement parts out there that you can you to fix your zune if you mess it up.

For the people who have never had to open up their zune before, I would go and find a zune disassembly  guide to follow. There are tons out there, and make sure to read a few before doing it.

The bottomline, do this at your own risk.

DON'T DO IT.
It is a software problem, and wait for Microsoft to release a fix. Doing any of this can cause you to void your warranty and possibably break your Zune.
