Free Virus Removal Tools by Kaspersky and McAfee
When you need a good free anti-virus scanner, you won't find any shortage of tools to choose from. Kaspersky is often rated as one of the best anti-virus software vendors and they also have a free tool for us.
I like fast scanning and the feature set of the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool. It allows you to choose the areas of the computer system you want to scan and you can generate several reports that can be saved and printed. They also offer one unusual feature for a tool like this. They allow you to send reports to an anti-virus forum for help if you need it.
What I don't like is that the tools require an installer. They also set an auto-run entry on your system. I don't see the need for either of those in a small anti-virus tool. I typically only run this in emergencies such as when I'm helping out a friend.
Kaspersky does not advertise this tool and I doubt if they offer much support, but it's always nice to have one more tool to fight infections. I can't enthusiastically recommend this product, but I can't find too much wrong with it either.
The only report that gave me much confidence in using this tool was a short post from one of the moderators at the AumHa forums.
The tool is for once only on-demand use. It does not provide any real-time continuing antivirus protection. It should not conflict in its use with any already installed antivirus product from another vendor, although this protection should be disabled prior to running the software. This is a different product than the Kaspersky® On-Line Virus Scanner . It would be a good choice for heavily infected computers, and for computers with Autorun and difficult Rootkit-based types of infections. It does have a larger download requirement as a result
The Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool is a free application was designed to be another virus scanner and detection software from Kaspersky. The product will scan the specified locations for any virus threats and remove them or send to Quarantine folder ... to uninstall/move this program "enable self-defense' must be unchecked.

I also recommend Macafee Stinger for this type of work.
Do you use any other virus scanners please let everyone know. Post under comments.
