I wonder if this is a standard reply this year? It is still kind of early yet. I was semi-audited 2 years ago by NY, meaning I filed in January and it wasn't until mid/late March that I saw my refund. Last year it took the usual 4 weeks. I dropped my form off last Friday and my tax preparer e-files on Mondays so they probably just received it? Not sure though. Not claiming child care either.

I too got the same message this year again. Last year this happened to me for the first time. I filed my taxes in January and they gave me an adjusted refund on March 1, 2011 then they took 90 days to process the proof of payment for the childcare that I paid, which in turn I didn't receive the balance of my refund until June 28, 2011. Now, it looks like its happening again. How about they audit the individuals who don't really have theses expenses and are just claiming them to get extra money.

I have checked the NYS web site religiously and finally there is something NEW. It states my refund check will be mailed July 12th! No news on the amount or anything of that sort but at least I'm getting SOMETHING. And I only had to wait 5 months. *rolls eyes*.

It's now 6/28 and FINALLY the NYS website says something other than I'll be receiving correspondence. It now says they have no information regarding my tax refund and to call 518-457-5149 for futher info. Upon calling the number they say I'll be receiving correspondence in 10 days!!! I'm sick of getting the run-around from NYS. They can't even tell me if I'll be getting a partial refund. I proved I worked and I proved my child is mine. I've been waiting since the 1st week of February for my refund!

My last post here was 4/25 it is now 6/1 and I have yet to hear from NYS or receive my refund. The message on their website hasn't changed and customer service is not helpful at all. Apparently the 90 days to review what I sent in is not up yet. How ridiculous.
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 04/25/2011 - 16:08.
Well, I sent in all the info requested by NYS well over a month and half ago and when I last called them they parroted what the website says "you'll be receiving correspondence in 10 days". I told them I got the correspondence back in Feb and turned in everything they requested. The rep then said they have up to 90 days to review whatever I sent in. Needless to say, I'm still waiting on my refund. This is ridiculous.

I am in the same boat as you Anonymous dated 4/25/2011. I received my partial refund on March 2, 2011, and was instructed to send in additional info regarding my two kids. I sent in what was requested and than I received a letter stating that the info was insufficient to determine if I qualified for my Childcare credit. I called the NYS hotline and was informed that because my 3yr old was in a academy for preschool that the tuition wasn't considered a valid expense. BS. I sent a nice letter and all the documents back to the Audit dept and the protest Dept. To date I am still waiting on a response.

I still haven't recieved my refund yet...(Filed Jan 21st) Got a letter last week in the the mail that said that they can't verify some of the information on my income tax return... (I have worked at the same place for 12 years!) Not a thing has changed... Grrr. Now i have to send in a copy of my W2 (which they have already) and a copy of my last paystub for 2010. And that could take an additional 90 days! Gotta Love NYS

Short fill-in here. I filed my taxes end of Jan. (Single father - 1 child - no daycare expenses). Return was accepted by IRS & had my federal refund DD beginning of Feb. Then got the wonky message from NYS when checking my status. Waited 3 weeks & finally got the letter. They want proof I worked (w-2's not good enough - they want paystubs), they want copies of my sons birth cert, social security card, a letter explaining my relationship with him (we have the same name-hellooooo), a note from the doctor evidencing I'm his father (birth cert not good enough for NYS I guess) and a letter from the school district stating he goes to school there. I've claimed this child since he was 1 and never had any problems. The doctor said the hospital board would not allow such a letter unless there was a paternity test on file - his mom and I never had one done. What a crock! NYS SUCKS.

It turns out that NYS adjusted my refund by $70, due to an offset from either mine or my wife's 2009 return, which we filed "married filing separately". We're still getting over $1,000 back, so I'm not going to raise a stink over 70 bucks. I am, however, absolutely certain that we both paid whatever was owed last year. I have no idea how they come up with these adjustments.
My DD is scheduled for tomorrow. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting!

I've previously posted that my NYS return status displayed the "final stages of processing" message since February 14. Today, the status has finally changed to "We processed your return and adjusted the refund amount that you claimed. You will receive correspondence explaining the adjustment.A direct deposit of your refund is scheduled to be issued on (MARCH 14, 2011). If your refund is not credited to your account within 15 days of this date, check with your bank to find out if it has been received". I filed "married filing jointly" (no kids, so no child care credit), with no unusual deductions. I wish there was a way to find out how much I will actually be getting back without having to wait another week. I can't wait to see the state's reasoning behind this adjustment.

Hope all are well. There have been no new posts since the 7th.
I gues that means all of you have your NYS refund or at least a direct deposit date.
I am in the elite group of folks whose return is in limbo and the "...requires further review, could take up to 60 days..."stage.
NY accepted my returmn on February 3rd, so we are 38 days in and going on week 6 with no status change and no information.
This is the first time I have ever been in this status.
Anyone else out there experiencing the same?
Best to all,

As I've mentioned earlier, my refund has been adjusted and is scheduled to be DD'ed this coming Monday. I'm anxiously awaiting correspondence explaining why it was adjusted and how much it was adjusted for.
I can't believe that your return is still in the 60 day limbo. Since it's already been several weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if your return was singled out for a line-by-line review. I really can't think of any other explanation. How much were you expecting to get back?

Same status. This is getting quite frustrating.
I guess I am the only one left, everyone elkse seems to have either stopped posting or has gotten their refund or both.
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 03/07/2011 - 17:01.
I guess that's all you can do. For the person who posted this it's easier since you already have a least some knowledge of your refund date. For many of us who have been in a "..could take up to 60 days..." and it's been that way for 5 weeks or more it's not so easy to relax.
I think what's frustrating most people is that you can't get any information. At least the IRS, tells you what's going on. NYS will give no more information than the website offers.
The have told me that the website is updated daily.
Also, for the person who posted the relax message, this is not the same thing that happened last year at least to me. Last year it took 5 weeks to get the refund and the status was never the 60 day message, it is the first time that I have encountered this message.

After "will take up to 60 days" posted January 22, it now states "Your return has completed processing. You will receive correspondence about your return within 10 business days."
So now I feel even worse. Checked the bank for at least part of the DD - nothing here.

I read the posts and I cant help but think some of you are really impatient.
I say this because my NYS refund has been in the same status since February 3rd, which is now more than a month.
I called them and they really can't tell you anything.
Is anyone experiencing the same delay of one month ore more with no status updates?
Look forward to your responses.
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 03/04/2011 - 15:05.
Compared to your situation, most of us do seem impatient! However, my status has been stuck in the "final stage of processing" phase for the past 3 weeks and was "under additional review" for 2 weeks (due to itemized deductions holding up the Federal until mid-February). It's just not making much sense that the so-called "final stage" is taking so long. May I ask what status your refund is in?
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 03/02/2011 - 11:15.
filed on jan 26... nys under review for 3 weeks, then processing for 1 week, then dd date & received on dd date of fed 24. fed said dd on 25, changed to march 8th, today says march 4th (friday). fingers crossed!!
Lot of people reported that there are last minute change of dates to expected refund dates. Might be more for checks than DD. Its always better to use DD as option to receive your refunds because traditionally DD refunds are processed lot faster than checks
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 03/02/2011 - 13:26.
I filed on January 29th with itemized deductions, so Federal was not accepted until February 14th. State was under additional review until Federal was accepted, and has been in final stages since then. Federal was deposited into my bank account on February 25th (approx. $6,000). The anticipated state refund is around $1,000. I wonder what the hold up is.

Mike:for 5 years I had an acountant do my taxes. This year I'm trying to do them myself. What goes in line 5a of form 1040 schedule A, since my acountant has a higher amount in line 5a of schedule A than in box 17 in the W-2 form? I think this 2 amounts have to be the same. Does any body know please?

I received my dd, with adjustment, on the date nys refund site stated but they also said I would receive a letter. I am sure it is due to a student loan but i over paid them. Does any one know how long before I get the said letter explaining my adjustmet? Also would anyone happen to know how long before the nys higher education returns the amount i over paid? I called them and their systems shows my loan was paid in full with my federal and the state hasn't been credited as of yet...

Hi everyone
Ok, I have been on this site posting on and off.. I filed on 1/22 as married filing jointly with two dependents. Up until the 18th of Feb, my status was under review. On 2/18 it changed to the final stages of processing. The today, 2/28 it changed to a DD date of 3/10/2011. So if you have been in a long wait, like me, the state I think is finally starting to release the funds. I hope this helps! Good Luck everyone!

I called NYS for a status on my NYS refund only to get a prompt that says "Your return has been accepted and is under review and could take up to 60 days." I immediately called the dept. of Finance only to be told the same thing. I asked if someone could tell me what exactly is being reviewed. The rep. explained that my return was good and could see no reason for a review. Spoke with a 'supervisor' without resolution only to be told in an agitating manner that just wait 4-6 weeks. ***I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH CHANNEL 7 NEWS & MARK JUST INFORMED ME THAT NYS DID THE SAME THING LAST YEAR. CHANNEL 7 ABC NEWS DID A STORY LAST YEAR AND HE SAID THEY CAN DO A FOLLOW UP STORY THIS YEAR AS WELL!!
