The US government will start offering cash for kitchen rebates in the fall of 2009 for old appliances. If you want to get rid of your old appliances, this is time to grab the opportunity at cash for old appliances and refrigerators rebate program.
However, this cash for kitchen clunkers is only available for appliances which have certain energy efficiency (usually minimum 4 EF stars). US government has set aside $300 million for rebates for people buying energy efficient appliances, like dishwashers, refrigerators and air conditioners.
The maximum cash for old appliances rebate is $200. The retailer will get cash in rebate vouchers for this cash for kitchen program. Cash for kitchen clunkers Program details will vary by state and the Energy Department has set a deadline of October 15 for states to file formal applications.

The energy.gov website operate by US government calls the cash for kitchen clunkers program as Rebates for ENERGY STAR Appliances or Star Appliance Rebates Program. It clearly says, In late 2009 or early 2010, you can receive rebates to purchase new ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances when you replace your used appliances.

How can I apply for a rebate?
State energy offices will administer the rebate program. Consumers should expect rebates to be available in late 2009 or early 2010. States and territories must first submit plans to the Department of Energy that detail how their residents can qualify for the rebates. The plans must include a list of products, the rebate amounts, and the process for applying for the rebates. Those plans are due to the Department by October 15, 2009, and may be accepted earlier.
