cinco de mayo means 5th of May in spanish or 5 de mayo and its a regional and not an obligatory federal holiday in Mexico. Its not a Mexico's Indepedence day. People wrongly assume it as one.

Cinco De Mayo celebrations are mainly done in state of Puebla. Cinco De Mayo is commonly referred cinco demio, which is a wrong spelling of the festival. Cinco de mayo is often celebrated
as national festival in USA where they also raise Mexican Flag.

If you want to catch the real Cindo De Mayo celebrations, you better head off to USA or downtown Mexico.

In Mexico City like the rest of the Mexican capitals all the young men who serve the military services pledge allegiance to the Mexican national flag and the institutions that it represents.
