FREE Download of Garmin GPS Mapsource US TOPO Maps CD ROM
While lurking around on the internet, I found a great new way to get FREE Download of Garmin GPS Mapsource TOPO Maps CD ROM.
These maps are extremely helpful for mountain tracks but do not provide turn by turn routing as you move. Garmin GPS is a leader in GPS segment and you can download these Mapsource Topo maps alternative for your Garmin GPS.
The underlying topo data comes from the Geogratis Website (The BNDT dataset) (© Department of Natural Resources Canada. All rights reserved). This is essentially the data you get on the government issue 1:50,000 topo maps.
The road data comes from the GeoBase® website.
You can download the latest Garmin Topo Maps Windows Version : http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/download/MapUpdate.exe
You can download latest Garmin Topo Maps for Mac Version: http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/TopoMaps131.tgz
This could be essentially useful for Garmin Etrex Vista HCX with the latest City Navigator NT

Where does the updater put the files so I can get MapSource to load them?
i downloaded the us verion 2.0 and its got a nsis error wont load?
Is this only for canada? The thread title says us, but the text says topo from DNRcanada.
This link is to the Canadian Maps. At the moment, the US maps don't have Topo on them.
The US maps are at http://www.ibycus.com/ibycususa
i got the mapupdater and ran it, and it seemed to be dl'g files, but I don't know what it did with them, or what to do next. did you actually do this?
If you have an existing version of Mapsource/Trip and Waypoint Manager, you can view the files in there. (Just select "Ibycus Topo" from the drop down list in the top left hand corner. If not, you have to do some dancing about to get Mapsource off of Garmin's website (download and install "Garmin Training Center" then download and install "Mapsource Update")
